Hope everyone had a great weekend. My son Aijalon and I braved the extreme cold weather on Saturday to attend the Philly Auto Show. The annual winter event at the Philadelphia Convention Center took place from January 28 to February 5. We first checked out the newest vehicles from Ford, Honda, Jeep, Lexus, GMC, Aston Martin and more. Then we went downstairs to Custom Alley where on display were custom cars from A1 Wraps, Autoholics and Philly Customz just to name a few. We were a little disappointed that there weren't more celebrity custom cars but we still had an amazing time. Here are photos and a short video…

What a great way to start the new year. Congratulations to our niece Avi and her cheerleading team on winning first place at the 2023 St. Hubert Cheerleading Competition in Bensalem, PA. Avi is a member of the Willingboro Panthers youth and senior cheer squad. These athletes were amazing during their incredible performance. Here are photos and video from the competition… Hope everyone had a great MLK holiday weekend! I was able to get some well-deserved rest, lol. My wife Asenath is engrossed in reading two books right now. The books are Be Unapologetically You: A Self Love Guide for Women of Color and Black Girl, Call Home. I asked her to share her thoughts about what she has read so far from each book… “Be Unapologetically You by author Adeline Bird is a self help book that tries to show that you can be yourself and not always be influenced by societal rules and cultural norms.” - Asenath “Black Girl, Call Home is a book of poems that are very nostalgic and relatable. Author Janine Mans’ poems expresses dealing with her mother's expectations of her as an African American woman.” - Asenath
Happy New Year!!! Asenath and I would like to thank you for your support in 2022. 2023 will hopefully be as amazing and fun with more of our posts about relationships, travel, food, art and design and books. Yesterday Gigi made her famous delicious tostones for breakfast and I made my flavorful jerked fried sea bass for dinner. Here are some photos from the kitchen. Enjoy!!!
Asenath baked this delicious pound cake to take with us to her cousin Trichia’s house for Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends. We wish everyone the best on this holiday and I would like to personally thank you all for your support and love. Have a great Thanksgiving weekend!
Asenath and I thought it would be a cool idea to find one or two cheeses that we can have for our holiday snack treat, so we decided to have a cheese tasting at home. I took a trip to Di Bruno Bros. in Philadelphia and purchased an assortment of cheeses we could try. Di Bruno Bros. has a great selection of “signature cheeses, to the blues, the Bries and creamy cheeses, cheddars, fondue, fresh & chèvres, Goudas, Parmigianos, pecorinos & grating cheeses, provolones, the stinky & funky, and truffle cheese—WHEW!” I went a little over my budget but picked up these cheeses… Cheeses: Auricchio Stravecchio Provolone. “Imported from Italy, and aged for 12 months. It smells slightly pungent, and its flavor is robust, nutty, and piquant.” Normandie Brie. “Soft, mild, buttery and creamy taste.” Cabot Habanero Cheddar. “Sharp cheddar taste with flavors of habanero peppers that gives a spicy kick.” Drunken Goat. “Pasteurized goat's milk cheese. Aged for a short period of time then immersed in wine for at least 72 hours. Mild and creamy taste.” Etxegarai. “Unpasteurized sheep’s milk cheese aged 6 months and smoked over Hawthorne and Cherry woods.” Campo de Montalban. “Aged for three months. 60 percent cow’s milk, with the remainder being a mix of goat and sheep’s milk. Mild buttery with notes of nuts and a balanced acidity.” Our favorites were the Drunken Goat and the Campo de Montalban. I particularly liked the subtle flavors of the Drunken Goat cheese and Asenath enjoyed the Campo de Montalban. She said, “I liked the texture and the flavor. It was firm but smooth.”
What’s your favorite Netflix movie? Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning is the best adaptation of a Japanese manga/anime I have ever seen. It was released June 4, 2021, directed by Keishi Ohtomo. The visuals are amazing and the action scenes are brutal. The story takes place in 1864 during Japan’s civil war. An assassin Kenshin Himura, also known as Battosai the killer pledges to protect the revolution. I literally lost count of how many bodies he dropped. Some of the Cast: Takeru Sath (Kenshin Himura), Emi Takei (Kaoru Kamiya), Nobuhiro Watsuki, Munetaka Aoki (Sagara Sanosuke), Kasumi Arimura (Tomoe Yukishiro), Munetaka Aoki (Sagara Sanosuke). Asenath and I spend most of our time at work, home or travelling to family events. We seldom find time to go out on a date. On Saturday we finally found the time and made a reservation to dine at one of our favorite restaurants, Bone Fish Grill. As we were getting ready to leave, AJ came into the room with a peculiar look on his face. "Where are you guys going?" he said, we paused for a second as if we were in trouble, and I said, "we're going out to dinner." "Without me?" he replied. Yes, without you, is what I wanted to tell him but I thought this is a moment where I have to stay focused and on task, lol. So I said, "I thought you were going out with your friends tonight," and he replied, “Yeah but..." Asenath and I stared at AJ, waiting for him to say something else but he didn't and left the room 😳. We arrived at the restaurant around 8:15 pm. Asenath looked great 😍. It wasn’t a tough decision to go to Bone Fish for our date. We've been there before and enjoyed their delicious wood-grilled seafood. Our server was incredible. She brought out our meals about 15 minutes after we ordered. We had a great time on our date and made a promise to find the time to do it again and again.
I visited Fat Jack’s Comicrypt store in Philadelphia today and picked up a few comic books. One of the books I purchased was Black Adam Special Edition #1. It’s a good read. This book starts out with an amazing, eye opening fight scene then suddenly goes on to a plot that I think will develop into something great in the upcoming issues. (Black Adam made his first appearance in DC comics Marvel Family #1, December 1945. In the comic, he is an Egyptian prince named Teth-Adam who was bestowed powers by the wizard Shazam.) On October 21, 2022 Black Adam the movie will be released in the United States. Staring Dwayne Johnson (Black Adam), Pierce Brosnan (Doctor Fate), Aldis Hodge (Hawkman), Quintessa Swindell (Cyclone), Noah Centineo (Atom Smasher) and Djimon Hounsou (Shazam). Here is the official trailer… ...also check out these 3 new DC comic books. 1. Black Adam – The Justice Society Files: Dr. Fate #1 - December 2022 2. Batman Vs. Robin #1 (Variant Cover by Alexander Lozano) 3. Detective Comic 1064 - November 2022 (Variant Cover by Anacleto & Arif Prianto)
