If you’re looking for a great spot to relax, sip wine, and enjoy delicious empanadas from food trucks, Laurita Winery in New Egypt, New Jersey is the place to be. This past Sunday, my wife and I returned for another empanada-filled outing. Despite the sweltering heat—temperatures hovered around 90 degrees—we weren’t about to let that stop us. After checking in at the entrance, we headed inside to cool off and browse the wine shop. Once we’d had a little respite, we made our way back outside to the food truck area—the real reason for our visit. There were two trucks serving empanadas: Empanada Beast and Latin Bites. Our first stop was Empanada Beast, which offers Colombian-style empanadas. I tried both the beef and chicken options. While they were flavorful, they were mostly filled with potatoes and light on the meat—not quite what I expect from a traditional empanada, but still enjoyable. Next up was Latin Bites, serving a mix of Cuban and Puerto Rican flavors. Their beef empanadas were fantastic—packed with beef, peas, potatoes, and peppers. Definitely the highlight of the day!
She asked me if I wanted to go with her.
I paused for a moment then quickly said, “Yes”. That Friday afternoon we arrived at the Grounds of Sculptures, a 42-acre park of contemporary sculptures in Hamilton Township, New Jersey. I was a little nervous. We were on a date, and it felt good. Her hand in mine, we walked and explored the gardens of thought-provoking sculptures. All around us laughter fills the air as children playfully chasing each other around the sculptures. A peacock calls out. Everyone looks ups to see it perched gracefully on the roof top. Her smile was like a crescent moon... One of the places we checked out during our wedding anniversary weekend adventure in New York City was the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) located at 11 West 53rd Street. Tickets were $25 for adults and $18 for seniors. We enjoyed viewing exhibitions and collections by Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Paul Cézanne, Georges-Pierre Seurat, Georgia O’Keeffe and one of our favorite exhibition, Refik Anadol - Unsupervised. Here is a quick look at what it was like at the MoMa… My wife and I traveled to Orlando, Florida last week to see our daughter during her college softball tournament, The Spring Games. Luckily, on the day we arrived there were no scheduled games, so we went straight from the airport to her team’s hotel in Winter Garden, FL. We were extremely excited to see her and definitely made the most out of our visit. While the tournament started earlier in the week, we did have a chance to catch a few games. The games were held at two field locations, Legends Way Ball Field in Clermont, FL and Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex in Leesburg, FL. I should tell you, watching softball games can be exciting and extremely stressful at the same time.
Here are a few photos from our trip… Hope everyone had a great weekend. My son Aijalon and I braved the extreme cold weather on Saturday to attend the Philly Auto Show. The annual winter event at the Philadelphia Convention Center took place from January 28 to February 5. We first checked out the newest vehicles from Ford, Honda, Jeep, Lexus, GMC, Aston Martin and more. Then we went downstairs to Custom Alley where on display were custom cars from A1 Wraps, Autoholics and Philly Customz just to name a few. We were a little disappointed that there weren't more celebrity custom cars but we still had an amazing time. Here are photos and a short video… Apple Cider Donuts - Hot, yummy, delicious, sugar-coated sweet treats is the best way to describe apple cider donuts. It’s the season and we took full advantage of it. We visited Minard’s Family Farm in Clintondale, New York to get some cider donuts. I bought two dozen cider donuts ($23.76) and Asenath got two apple turnovers ($4 each + tax) for her cousin Trichia. Here are some photos…
Yes, it was a good idea! Asenath and I visited the Barnes Foundation Museum in Philadelphia on Saturday. Walking around looking at artwork for about 2 hours made us both hungry, lol. The museum has a collection of the world’s most important impressionist, post-impressionist, and modern paintings, including works by Renoir, Cézanne, Matisse, and Picasso. Displayed alongside them are African masks, native American jewelry, Greek antiquities, and decorative metalwork. Around 1:30 pm we had lunch at the Barnes Foundation’s Garden Restaurant. Asenath ordered the HOUSE MADE FALAFEL and I had the SEARED SALMON, no drinks. Our lunch totaled $56+tip. Here are photos of our delicious meals... After lunch we went to check out the current exhibition of Isaac Julien: Once Again . . . (Statues Never Die), an immersive film installation exploring the relationship between Dr. Albert C. Barnes and famed philosopher and cultural critic Alain Locke. Here is a video clip of the exhibition... |
