If you’re looking for a great spot to relax, sip wine, and enjoy delicious empanadas from food trucks, Laurita Winery in New Egypt, New Jersey is the place to be. This past Sunday, my wife and I returned for another empanada-filled outing. Despite the sweltering heat—temperatures hovered around 90 degrees—we weren’t about to let that stop us. After checking in at the entrance, we headed inside to cool off and browse the wine shop. Once we’d had a little respite, we made our way back outside to the food truck area—the real reason for our visit. There were two trucks serving empanadas: Empanada Beast and Latin Bites. Our first stop was Empanada Beast, which offers Colombian-style empanadas. I tried both the beef and chicken options. While they were flavorful, they were mostly filled with potatoes and light on the meat—not quite what I expect from a traditional empanada, but still enjoyable. Next up was Latin Bites, serving a mix of Cuban and Puerto Rican flavors. Their beef empanadas were fantastic—packed with beef, peas, potatoes, and peppers. Definitely the highlight of the day!
Latino food truck festival, A quest for empanadas – amazing wines Tasty foods and long lines. Nothing but smiles playing corn hole. Humid and hot, We sat on a ledge next to the road Eating ice cream; And got lost talking. She leaned against me, Listening to Pennington Station Band, “And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson Jesus loves you more than you will know Whoa, whoa, whoa…” Delighted she was there, In more ways than one. Happy New Year! This weekend, my wife was away on a family trip... …and while it was extremely difficult to function without her, I managed to put together Sunday dinner for my son and me. I made our favorite meal, oven broiled barbecue jerk chicken wings. The combination of flavors thrilled our taste buds. Along with my dry seasoning and blended fresh herbs, I used three main ingredients that were store-bought. (1) Spicy Jamaican jerk marinade, (2) mild Jamaican jerk seasoning and (3) Hickory Smoke barbecue sauce. Here are a few photos from the kitchen… No leftovers, lol.
Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend! On Thursday, June 29th, I received a text message from my brother with information about his daughter Bailey’s next swim meet. The text said it was being held on Saturday at the Fairland Sports and Aquatics Complex in Laurel, Maryland. “The complex offers aquatics, gymnastics, tennis and fitness classes for youth and adults.” I attended the event with Asenath and my daughter, Ailah. Bailey was amazing. Her tenacity and sheer will to compete was inspiring. Here is a short video clip of her performance… Hope everyone had a great weekend. My son Aijalon and I braved the extreme cold weather on Saturday to attend the Philly Auto Show. The annual winter event at the Philadelphia Convention Center took place from January 28 to February 5. We first checked out the newest vehicles from Ford, Honda, Jeep, Lexus, GMC, Aston Martin and more. Then we went downstairs to Custom Alley where on display were custom cars from A1 Wraps, Autoholics and Philly Customz just to name a few. We were a little disappointed that there weren't more celebrity custom cars but we still had an amazing time. Here are photos and a short video… What a great way to start the new year. Congratulations to our niece Avi and her cheerleading team on winning first place at the 2023 St. Hubert Cheerleading Competition in Bensalem, PA. Avi is a member of the Willingboro Panthers youth and senior cheer squad. These athletes were amazing during their incredible performance. Here are photos and video from the competition… Here are random fun photos that we hope can bring a smile 😊 this weekend, don’t judge us, lol. Aijalon’s Birthday After-Party, New Jersey. Yes, it was a good idea! Asenath and I visited the Barnes Foundation Museum in Philadelphia on Saturday. Walking around looking at artwork for about 2 hours made us both hungry, lol. The museum has a collection of the world’s most important impressionist, post-impressionist, and modern paintings, including works by Renoir, Cézanne, Matisse, and Picasso. Displayed alongside them are African masks, native American jewelry, Greek antiquities, and decorative metalwork. Around 1:30 pm we had lunch at the Barnes Foundation’s Garden Restaurant. Asenath ordered the HOUSE MADE FALAFEL and I had the SEARED SALMON, no drinks. Our lunch totaled $56+tip. Here are photos of our delicious meals... After lunch we went to check out the current exhibition of Isaac Julien: Once Again . . . (Statues Never Die), an immersive film installation exploring the relationship between Dr. Albert C. Barnes and famed philosopher and cultural critic Alain Locke. Here is a video clip of the exhibition...
I would like to share a refreshing summer cocktail I put together called Lush Chiaro, lol. When I’m not drinking wine, this is the most delicious thing to drink during my home events or backyard barbecues. The recipe makes one serving, but you can adjust accordingly and make more.
Lush Chiaro
